What are some good ideas for an 8th grade formal?

At my school we are having a farewell dance in may or june for the 8th graders, and the student council needs some ideas, we have a masquerade idea but idk. We need some ideas out of the ordinary but some original ideas 2. But NOT hawiian they have been doing that theme waayyyy too long.
