Is the entire Republican strategy to tell us that McCain "knows how to" do stuff without ever giving details?

So far we've heard he knows how to win wars, knows how to create jobs, knows how to fix the economy, knows how to deal with Putin and Ahmadinejad and the rest, etc. But have they ever cited one example to demonstrate that McCain actually can do any of those tasks? Or is this like Nixon saying he had a plan to end the war in Vietnam but you had to elect him first to find out what it was?
