I am deeply in love but his mother does not see me as good enough to marry him since I am a widow w/children?

I am seeking any advice or comments on my situation. I am deeply in love with the most amazing person, he loves me as well as my children. His mother likes me as a person but hates my situation. She does not see me as good enough for her son since I am a young widow with children. Is it unusual for a mother to be wary of her son in this situation? Is it closed minded like I feel it is? He of course wants to make his parents happy but also wants a future with me. Please help.
